Coolant Pump Replacement

Recommended Posts

englishmaninwales

First post, so be kind!

First job on a Pug. I have the Haynes book.

Looks like I have an 8v XU aluminium block with spring belt tensioner. Shall make up the dowels from old 10mm drills., and probably buy the flywheel locking tool on the Drapers list (never keen on jamming a screwdriver in the flywheel)

First thing I noticed was the horrid corroded coolant pipe... but sadly, not the source of the leak. Are these available? What's the best source of spares (cambelt etc) in N Wales / Chester area?

Any hints or tips on the job greatfully received!!

Malcolm

Search for changing a cambelt as it's been covered a few times.

Take your time, the haynes book is quite good for this job. Metal coolant pipe should be around £10 from Euro Car Parts or GSF and the rest of the bits shouldn't be too expensive from these places.

I'm sure someone will clarify the best place to get a waterpump, tensioner or particular brand of belt

Hello and welcome to the forum :P

Like 'richsmells' said, if you do a search loads will be found however if working threw the steps in haynes slowly then it really is very easy.

For the dowls you can just use a 10mm dowl, drill bit or a bolt, as long as it keep the cam sprocket in place.

I got my water pipe from peugeot, it was only ~£13 or so. For the collent pump, tensioner and belt then your looking at around ~£75 but some pumps are better than others. once again a search will reveal all.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. The parts arrived from GSF yesterday, very efficient and friendly call centre. Which coolant is recommended - pink OAT or ethylene glycol?

In the haynes book:

Ethylene glcol-based antifreeze (Duckhams antifreeze and summer coolant), however any good antifreeze will do.
