skinner2k3 3 Posted July 18, 2007 I have noticed an ever increasing patch of oil developing on the floor of my garage, on closer inspection the leak is actually coming from the dipstick tube where it enters the block. I have not had one of these leak before, is it an easy fix? It leaks quite a lot. Cheers Be
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 18, 2007 yes, lift the tube out slightly, clean oil off, smear with high temp silicon and push it back.
skinner2k3 3 Posted July 18, 2007 yes, lift the tube out slightly, clean oil off, smear with high temp silicon and push it back. Ah right, thats a whole lot easier than I was expecting. I didnt realise they were just pushed in. So is it just the bolt at the top of the tube that holds it in place? I thought it may have been scewed in or something. Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 18, 2007 no, the bolt at the top simply stops it turning, remove that and the tub will lift out. Careful to lift it straight though as they bend and kink quite easily.

Ren 0 Posted July 18, 2007 Have you checked the top of the dipstick? The reason I ask is because the bit of the cap that sits in the tube is prone to breaking off and then the oil gets blown out the top of the tube. This could then run down and make it look like it's leaking at the base. Ren.
daza 0 Posted August 15, 2007 I just bought a dipstick tube and pulled the old one out easy but it looks like there must be about3 inches left in the block so i can't get the new one in because it's too long and manifold in the way,so do you reckon it would be ok to cut the same amount off the new so it will fit or just take manifold off? Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted August 15, 2007 take the sump off and pull it from underneath
daza 0 Posted August 16, 2007 (edited) ok cheers but it still looks like the manifold has to be moved to fit it,is there any do's or don'ts for this because the most i have done is change oil and plugs I'm just trying to save money, spent enough over the past month on it and i could do with learning more myself.
