ORB 227 1 Cars Posted July 17, 2007 As per title really. A few questions. What are the difference's between 1.6 and 1.9 gti Hand Brake cables? I am sure that my 1.6 has had 1.9 ones fitted at some point and they appear to be too long? Whats your thoughts? Also, do they have a different shaped/sized nipple on the end? Any input would be nice as I think I have the wrong cable on the car and they dont seem to want to work properly? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
welshpug 1,657 Posted July 17, 2007 disc brake cables wont fit into the drum's handbrake mechanism, and cant be bodged in either, the nipples are different, as is the outer cable end fitting and the amount of exposed inner (drum cables also have a spring fitted) If you dont know how old they are just fit some new ones, less than £15 a pair inc vat, usually youll have to strip down and clean everything wiorh a wire brush an re-assemble with anti-seize compound.
