hello guys

 

i have just been reading this topic topic on here (mayo) and that all sounded find to me as i use to own a bx gti

 

The one i have has the same mayo in the lid but its a lot more watery (hope i am making sence) looks like rust

when its ticking over with the filler cap off it spits it up.

 

i have had the car ticking over for over 30minits and the temp gage gets to about 1/2 way the fan cuts in as it should. The oil on the dipstick is black there is no white smoke out the exhaust

 

the only thing that makes me wonder is when i bought it there was no water in the tank or tho it has only done about 400 miles since its last mot so must have sat about for a long time (only got 3 months mot left now)

 

i am not to sure i have put water in it run it and it hasn't gone any were i cant drive it as it has no tax or tho if i sell my van in the next 3 days i might just tax it and see what happens.

 

i bought a head gasget yestoday and new oil filter but i am lazy so if i dont have to do it would be good

 

what do you guys think?

 

might be worth draining the oil out and changing it would that stop the white stuff spitting out for a day or to giving me time to see if it is the head gasget ????

sounds to me like condensation in the filler cap, if its been stood a while then its normal and possibly the breather pipes have gunked up. If its not going to be driving a while then pop the oil pipes off and give them a good clean then refit and put fresh oil in.

if it's been sitting for a while condensation collects in the engine...

mine did the same thing recently.... took the risk and drove swiftly 250km to a hard track day where i spent alot of time on the track, and drove home. no problems.

usually makes a bit of condensation/mayo in the catch tank too. first car i've had that makes that mouh mayo without there being any problems!

If the head gasket has gone it will be very obvious when you take the filler cap off. There will be absolutely loads of mayo.

 

The last one I saw with a blown head gasket had so much so that the filler pipe was replaced after I got tired of trying to get it cleaned out.

In my experience that's not always true - certainly I've seen blown HG's before and the filler has been clean as a whistle

i had a 405 sri years ago that had blown h/g and you couldn't see behind the car it use to fill the road/street/carpark up with smoke and the oil was milky

 

the 205 dont have these problems

 

i cleaned all the pipes out and it was gunky but i dont no if its because its never been done before :S

 

the good news is i just sold my van so have the tax mans money for taxing it, so i might just tax it and give it a drive and see if it uses water after your words

one more quick Q befor i go out and get it what is the best oil to get grade ect 15/40???

To make my above statement slightly clearer, I agree with Anthony if the head gasket has gone between the water gallery & cylinder it can still be clean but if its gone between oil & water galleries it'll be a real mess imo.

Right taxed it to day at last (got 10 days free told em it run out end of month )

 

it needs some thing maybe a service or the head gasget has gone best way to put it is it flat spot with no go very slow (not that i gave it death only went to 3~3.5k)

 

liked driving it tho i might sell it and get a better one not to sure what its worth

 

i'll have a look in the morning and see if it has lost any water give it a oil and filter change and take it for a long ish run 30 or so miles if it hasn't lost its water and see if it inproves hasn't been used for a little while

You can test the HG by filling the coolent to the top and running the engine with the cap off.If you keep getting little bubbles comming though it could be gas leaking into the water.
