Speedo Wrong?

Recommended Posts

CTI STU

Ive just got my self another Cti and the speedo seems to be wrong? @ 50mph mine is showing 61mph and at 90mph mine shows about 107mph!!!

The car is a 1.6 but Ive been told it has 1.9 hubs on it so has 1.9 drive shafts? could this have anything to do with it??

Please help!

You need to make sure that the toothed wheel on the end of the driveshaft is the correct one for the speedo worm. Changing the worm only doesn't seem to work.

If you have standard 1.9 wheels on a 1.6 it will make about very little difference on the speedo. Only the other day on my private runway my 1.6 with 1.9 wheels was saying 98mph on the clock, yet the Sat Nav registered 100mph

Sound like the speedo thinks that it it is geared as a 1.9 but it is actually geared as a 1.6 so as Henry says, I would look at the speedo drive bits.

not at all, the circumference of 1.6 and 1.9 tyres are near identical (1% difference in fact)

what was the gearbox off originally? by bet is that its something with a 195 55 15 standard tyre size.
