boldy205 75 Posted July 12, 2007 Hi, while my 205 is off the road i bought myself a mk2 golf. i know some of you here like them too, so own up!! problem is it seems to have a positive camber prob on the nearside wheel, there is alsoa clunk when driving over the edge if a pavement for example. the suspension is the same as a 205 gti with one lower wishbone and a McPhearson strut (no roll bar though). poss thinking top mounts? i dont think its the wishbone bushes as it dosent pull sideways under accelaration. help please!! thanks matt

ricdat 0 Posted July 13, 2007 I don't know about Mk2 Golfs but I do know about Mk1 Golf front suspension. Maybe it is the same anyway. On the Mk1, front camber is adjustable (unlike on some crappy french cars - btw, what forum are we on?). The strut is held by 2 bolts to an extension of the upright (unlike 205s where the strut plugs into a big hole in the upright). The topmost of those bolts has eccentric washers attached and the bolt goes through a slotted hole. So, you just loosen both bolts, rotate the top bolt until you get your desired camber and then tighten them up again (80Nm). Most important is that you find the real cause of the clunk and positive camber first (may be the same, or two different problems). - Rick
