Rattling 205 1.6 Cti - What Could It Be.

Hi All,

 

With all your wisdom and knowledge could someone advise me where to start looking for problems with my rattley front end pug.

 

It sounds tappy rattly when ticiking over , like i can hear everything moving inside the engine tapping together.

 

Any ideas

Probably an exhaust problem.

 

Cracked manifold (common)

Snapped manifold / head stud (common)

manifold / downpipe gasket failing

manifold / head gaskets failing

 

All pretty common and sound like a top end engine rattle

[pugtop 0]

Very common for these to get 'tappety' can get other engine noises too, like tha above mentioned , manifold cracks , which can sound like valves. The injectors can be noisey too....

Worth draining the oil and checking for any metal in it , just in case.

Does the car seem down on power?

I had a rattle on my 205 1.6 GTi rally car that annoyed me and the car was gutless , then I took the head off , thinking it may be a valve fault.....How surprised I was to find something(unsure what it was) had got into cylinder 3 and been smacked between the head and the top of the piston , then it broke up and went doen the back of the liner and scored that to buggery! In the end I scrapped itand built another engine up!
