brumster 135 1 Cars Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Maybe I can't see the wood for the trees here, but fitting the PTS sump baffle onto the bottom of an mi16 I've run into two minor snags. 1) The oil level sender fouls the baffle plate; it's too tall (yes, the alloy spacer is in there, before you ask ). Solution : can I just nip the plastic end off it - will anything "fall out" and stop it working if I do? Or remove it altogether (which isn't ideal, but possible since the pressure warning light will tell me the important info should I lose that much oil!)? Or is it time to take a drill/cutter to the plate? 2) The dipstick - there's no hole in the baffle plate for this either. Ok, not a problem as such, I'll just drill one into it, but it surprises me that no provision was made for it in the first place? Is there a reason why whoever makes these kits now doesn't put a suitable hole in there to allow the dipstick to enter into the pan fully? EDIT : Apologies, just seen this thread here - doesn't answer my questions directly but I could probably have re-used that thread. Sorry mods . Out with the plasma cutter then, it would seem? pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 9, 2007 The PTS baffle you have could be for an 8v which would explain why there isn't a hole for the Mi dipstick. Are you using the oil level sensing system? If not it'd be better to just unscrew the oil level sensor from the back of the block & put the blanking plug in instead. Cutting the end off it will most likely stop it from working imo. The level sensor only works for the first few seconds from switching the ignition on & starting the car iirc before it reverts to just an oil pressure guage. Graham. brumster 135 1 Cars Posted July 9, 2007 Cool. I won't worry too much about the oil level sender then, although I should be able to cut a hole for it. But failing that, I'll just take it out. It's for a competition car so, to be honest, the low oil level light is hardly of any relevance any more. Cheers
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 9, 2007 As Graham's said all the PTS baffles are for 8v's so fitting to 16v need some slight mod's, If the engine's in a 205 the oil lever will not be connected anyway, The gearbox drain plug is a ideal replacement for the oil lever thing
pee vee 1 Posted July 9, 2007 mine must be a really strange baffle then!! it was too tall for the 1900 8v sump.. but yet it HAS the cut out for the dipstick in the front to fit it to MI16 easy ! didnt have the level sender hole though.. so the level sender got cut short! dont get used anyway mate. so no need to worry.
