Slightly Down On Power?

Recommended Posts

petesy71

hi. i recently got the timing belt done, but afterwards the car was lacking in power and hitting flat spots. i did a lot of reading on here and most problems are now sorted; the flat spots were the ignition coil breaking down and lack of power due to slack in the throttle cable. the cars now driving smooth, but doesnt seem to pull anywhere near as good in second gear, third is fine. i've been reading about the timing belt getting put on one tooth out and was worrying about this, but i dont think this is as bad. i was wondering could this be a simple case of advancing the timing slightly? the dizzy has been moved from its original mark, and i'd rather ask before messing with it myself. thanks, pete.

how far has the dizzy been moved?

its pretty straightforward to check if the belt is still in the right place, as the cam and crank lock in place with two 10mm dowels/rod/drill bits.

Are you running it on super unleaded? If its been set up for regular and its a 1.9 it won't pull like it should.
