Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted July 8, 2007 I'm currently stripping down a 16v head from a bottom end that has seized, due to a nasty oil leak on the air/oil cooler. Bottom end is rogered, but was hoping that the head would be OK. On removing the caps, the journals look heavily scratched and worn, with a lot of ridges (running your nail across it). Same with the cams. There is a lot of metal hanging around the head too, given that there is filter basket in the head I doubt this would be from the bottom end. Pictures don't do the damage justice, but what do you think? Camshaft Bearing Caps
James_R 3 Posted July 8, 2007 hard to say from a picture, they don't look good but not totally awful only way to really tell if to clean up the damage then plastigauge them. If all else fails I've got a spare Mi head still on an engine you can have
