hengti 2 Posted July 8, 2007 i've asked about this (and other things) over on Cliosport but don't seem to be getting anywhere; thought i'd try my luck with you guys bought a 172 Cup about a month ago and already have a list of problems; i went over it yesterday and found some more stuff - including a PAS oil leak from one of the rack gaiters. i've not worked on PAS systems before and am not sure that the rack gaiters should be containing PAS oil - Haynes suggests that the internal seals have likely failed - ? can anyone confirm that this is likely the case? any advice appreciated
chris 417 mi 34 2 Cars Posted July 8, 2007 is there a renault version of the peugeot parts cd online ? if so id pull up the diagrams for the rack, check where the seals should sit and decide from there
Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted July 8, 2007 no they shouldnt contain any oil. its more than likely the internal seals have failed. you maybe best off getting an replacement rack as im not too sure whether that seal can be replaced. have you tried pulling the boot off and having a look inside? hengti 2 Posted July 9, 2007 cheers chaps; suspected it shouldn't contain fluid i bought it (sensibly as it turns out!) from a dealer and will be having him pay for the three unpleasant jobs i think it needs doing (new steering rack/seals, new driveshaft, dephaser). not impressed that it has lunched a steering rack and a driveshaft within 30k/5 years - but there you go! will have to have a look for a parts CD at some point too..
