Bearings, Specifically Rear Beam Ones...

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps, just spent a few hours reading and keep coming acroos the mention of Phosphor bronze Bushes (namely from Graham :D ) and wondered if anything came from the enquiries made? (and also how your rear beam is going Graham?)

I came across this post - http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...36454&st=20 that specified the actual part numbers on the pug bearings, has anyone been able to source these from a bearing supplier?

My beam is going fine, just been apart this week again to fit some ZX radius arms & all is still great. Rebuilt with some fresh grease on the outer bushes.

I don't think anything else has happened with other people that asked about the bushes I have or bearing parts numbers. I've lost contact (ages ago) with the guy that made mine & as yet haven't found any material to make any more.

Graham.

thought as much

There is a bronzestockist down in cardiff that I could make enquiries at, I usually go there for Stainless steel fastenings.

I've got a set of bearings somewhere to hand that I'll measure and a few arm shafts as well.

I guess they would benefit from a shallow groove centrally? so that a grease nipple could be fitted.

actually I might pop out to the shed now and measure uo!

Right, got all the measurements needed

dimensions of the shaft as follows; inner end, 42mm dia, with 37mm of bearing surface width, outer end, 47mm dia, and 32mm bearing surface width.

So a wider bearing could be installed both inner and outer, though the outer is limited to 27mm as there is a lip this far in, out of curiosity I measured an old needle bearing that had been missed from the last tidyup and it was only 13.5mm long!!

Dimensions of the bearings were 53mm by 22mm wide, and 49mm by 22mm wide.

so even if bronze bushes couldnt be sourced easily enough there is scope there to fit some more substantial bearings (i.e wider)

I've posted the measurements before for the outer bearings.

(first reply to the topic you linked to above!!)

Mine have grooves around the inner & outer edges of the bush & one across linking them where I have fitted the grease nipple on mine.

I went to a metal fayre a few months ago & the didn't have anything big enough to make any more of these bushes & the prices they wanted for the pieces closest to what I need for them was riduclous anyway.

Although I could get some fairly cheap for making the tophat gear selector bushes. :)

I'm VERY interested in a set of these if they're available, and I'm not alone. But my beam is currently apart and I can't wait that long to fit them so get a move on :)
