Is A 1.9 Slighty Wider Than The 1.6?

Hi guys,

This is probily just me going mad, but has a 1.9 gti got a wider or bigger shell than the 1.6gti?

I seen a 1.6 the other day and it did look abit smaller than the 1.9. ( like i said it's probilly me going mad lol)

The shells are the same size but the 1.6 actually has a slightly wider front track width IIRC.

I thought the 1.6 also had slightly narrower rear track as well.

Yes I think thats right, its all in the haynes manual.

Maybe the 1.9 just looks wider due to the slightly fatter tyres?

1.6 has different offset hubs widening the track slightly. I think Anthony once said the rear beams have a few mm difference.

It's in the handbooks, towards the rear. The 1.9 track is wider than the 1.6 at the rear, but narrower at the front, as said.
