driversdomainuk 8 Posted July 5, 2007 Hi I have read the pinned topic on oil - very useful. However, what oil, brand specific would you recommend for an MI16 engine which has been cam'd Carb'd and head work done with forged pistons and rods...making circa 200bhp..? I have been told Mobil 1 5w-20 is good - or should I be looking for full race oil i.e. Motol? I use the car for track days but mainly hillclimbs. deadcatdave 0 Posted July 5, 2007 there's plenty of posts from oilman here and on psooc where he advises oil for specific engine setups. i doubt 5w-20 will work, got to be a 40 at least i'd say
WildCards 0 Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) Simon and Guy (Oilman) push whatever they have on offer, but IMO there's nothing wrong with that they're running a business, for proper advice rely on other people experience. That said I've bought 20w50 Amsoil http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/ for my rebuilt Mi (Opie sell this too), after running my VR4 on their 0w30 to good effects it only made sense. Either that or give Millers a try, i've only ever heard good things about their oil too. Edited July 5, 2007 by WildCards
welshpug 1,677 Posted July 5, 2007 I dont see the logic in what you said there, they have vast experience in the field of oil, and know what engines require, and will sell you what you need, not what they want you to buy, if they did that there wouldnt be any engines left for them to supply oil for! There's no point putting 5-20 in there if its meant to have 10-40 is there? and no doubt oilman wouldnt sell you anything other than what your engine needs.
