Guest wayne_202 Posted July 5, 2007 hello i put a alloy mi16 into mi 205 about 3 months ago now the problem is it doesnt feel much quicker than a 1.6. it is running on the 8v loom. i am having to still use the 1.6 ecu and afm as i do have a 1.9 delimeted ecu and 1.9 afm but it just wont run propely on them. i had some issues with it underfueling a while ago causing flat spots between 3-3.5k revs so i have put a power boost valve on it but now its costing a fair bit to run.any suggestions why it is going so slow would be great or why it wont run on 1.9 equipment (i have tried several different afm and ecus).could it be some thing to do with 1.6 dizzy? cheers wayne
welshpug 1,657 Posted July 5, 2007 the solution is either a pair of carbs, Mi16 management or standalone management, you'll never get it working properly on Jetronic.
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 5, 2007 ditch the 8v stuff and get it running on a proper mi ecu, the 8v stuff will run it but it wont fuel it properly and the advance on the 9v dizzy will be way off (reason for your flat spot)

28CRAIG 2 Posted July 5, 2007 If you had twin 45's on an mi would you need either the 1.6 or 1.9 dizzy and adapter for it?, in other words which would be better?. Or a ignition only ecu. Try using a 1.9 dizzy with 1.9 ecu and afm dont mix 1.6 and 1.9 parts or check the timming sounds like it could need a bit of advance.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 6, 2007 What exactly are you using from the 1.6? If you are using the Mi dizzy you can't adjust it. Graham.
Guest wayne_202 Posted July 7, 2007 i am using 1.6 dizzy with the converter bit 1.6 ecu and afm and 1.9 injectors! so if i changed the dizzy to a 1.9 then it should run with the 1.9 ecu and afm? which would make it go faster? cheers wayne
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 7, 2007 Ideally when using the original loom from the 8v engine you wouldn't use any of the afm or ecu as you'd have carbs imo. What ever combination of afm & ecu you use from an 8v on the Mi16, you won't be getting the full potential from the engne. Best idea is to either find a loom & ecu from an Mi16 or fit carbs. It'll never run at noraml 16v power on 8v injection system components. Graham.
