New Thermostat, Should It Come With A Gasket?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I am replacing my radiator and thermostat this weekend as my existing ones are knackered. I picked up the parts yesterday from Europarts, including a very nice Nissens rad and a 89º thermostat.

The thermostat did not come with a new gasket, is this right?

Also on the invoice it mentions TU, the chap that Europarts claimed that is was the right one and probably the same one fro XU as TU, is this possible? :P

Any general advice of replacing a radiator and thermostat would be useful too, the book of lies claims that both are two spanner jobs.time will tell :o .

Thanks

Jonny

Replaceing the rad and thermostat is quit easy drain the coolant from the rad some rad have a drain screw bottom right or just remove the bottom hose.

take of the top hose,

take the small return hose of on the left of the red

unscrew the slam pannel ( pray the screws arnt rusted in)

the bonnet release cable is atached leave it atached to the slam pannel and just slide it out of the way.

unplug the temp sensor

relase metal spring clips on top of rad and pull the rad out

the thermostat is easy you will have to remove the airflow meter to get at it then it is just 2 screws and the top casting comes of there are 2 seals for it. take out the thermostat and there should be another black seal behind it clean and get rid of any cyristalised coolant put 1 seal in then the thermostat then the other seal and then replace the csating

you dont tend to get seals with the thermostat but you can get them from your local dealler or autofive.

Last thermostat kit I got included the seals but if you buy just the thermostat you don't get seals.

For what it's worth...

Halfords thermostats do come with the seals (both types)

GSF and Peugeot thermostats do not
