skinner2k3 3 Posted July 3, 2007 Hi I bought a strut brace on ebay and overall its pretty good. But..the three holes in the mounting brackets are about 8mm Dia. The hole centres are in the right place but obviously the M6 studs which come up through the turret dont fill the holes. So the brace can move. Is that meant to be like that or should I press/weld bigger studs into the top mounts and open up the holes in the turrets to make the brace a tight fit? Cheers Ben
welshpug 1,657 Posted July 3, 2007 the studs are M7, the holes are meant to have a little leeway to allow for discrepancies in bodyshells and top mounts. should be fine with nuts and washers on top.
Atari Boy 11 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) My strut brace is the same, I used some larger washers on top of the strut brace to solve the problem. I think this is the best way of sorting the problem, unless I am told otherwise..... Edited July 3, 2007 by Atari Boy
skinner2k3 3 Posted July 3, 2007 Have got larger washers on at the moment. The standard ones half fall in the holes! It just looks to me like the turrets could still flex under the strut brace, I dont want to do the nuts up murder tight to clamp the brace down hard enough to stop it moving. Other than possibly wasting my own time is there any other reason not to fit larger studs?
kyepan 291 Posted July 3, 2007 if its adjustable, you should be able to place it in tension, and stop any movement, although what this will do to the threads on the nuts i'm not sure.

Thats what I have done at the moment but it just seems a bit of a bodge! Plus would leave room the turrets to move inwards. Which way would non-brace turrest move? All Praise The GTI 3 Posted July 3, 2007 WARNING!!! i just bought one too and found that so i adjusted brace pushing outwards(i think that is how its supposed to be!) would of been fine but i think adjusted too much pressure on studs and when put nut on did too tight and one snapped!!! well its an excuse to save for coilovers anyways!!! sonofsam 5 Posted July 3, 2007 Aha, the old slutbracestudsnap strikes again, lol. My brace was the same, I just used larger washers as said. Am going to be fitting M8 studs and nylocs at some point.
