307 Hdi 283mm Brakes - Where To Buy?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I want to do a 307 big brake conversion to my new 1.9 track tool. I know what I need (307 calipers, yokes, discs and pads) but I'm having trouble finding where I can get them at a reasonable price.

I went into my local dealership to get a price for the parts, and they gave me the following quote:

O/S Caliper - £138.40

N/S Caliper - £138.40

2 x Yokes - £126.18

Total £402.98

Now that seems just crazy to me, and I told him it was WAY too overpriced! The question is where have you guys got your calipers and yokes from? The fitting guide mentioned around £50-60 for the calipers (although that was a couple of years ago!)

Can you point me in the direction of an online supplier? I don't have a lot of free time and it would be much easier to buy them online and get them delivered to my office rather than rummage around a scrap yard.

Plus somewhere to get decent discs and pads that will cope with track use would be great

Thanks in advance chaps

Iain

I got mine from pug maybe 3 months ago,

total prices were:

£55.21 for calipers (each)

£22.92 for yokes (each)

= £156.26 + VAT = £183.61

I paid less than you got quoted including the discs and mintex 1144 pads!

Are you sure you got the part no. correct.

Calipers:

00004400N2

00004400N3

Yoke:

0000440465 x 2

Yes, definitely gave him the correct part numbers, as I printed out the fitting guide and took that in

Buying the bits:

Prices from Peugeot dealer, correct in the month of May 05.

307 2.0 XU10 brake calipers and yokes:

4400N2 - Caliper - £51.14 +VAT

4400N3 - Caliper - £51.14 +VAT

440465 (x2) - Yoke (single) - £18.84 +VAT

That lot comes to a grand total of £164.48 (inc VAT).

I must have a rip-off dealer!

Could I ask a favour - can you give me the name and number of your dealer so I can phone them direct?

Thanks

Iain

No problem, I've got the invoice right here.

Arbury Peugeot Lichfield

01543 414404.

If you dont get any sense out of them then I've also got numbers for a Nuneaton branch and a citroen branch, both called Arbury aswell.

Pug = 02476 313146

Ctiroen = 02476 351500

I think they also sell them on brakeparts.co.uk but I wasn't sure whether they came with yokes or not so I just went to pug.

Hope that helps.

Sorted - Ordered and paid for, should be in stock tomorrow, I've got a mate going to pick them up.

Where's the best place for decent discs and Mintex 1144 pads?

Yoke:

0000440465 x 2

Guys - are we sure these are the same part numbers for the Yokes? The dealer has just called me back and said that is for 2 x Right Side Yokes.

Apparently the Left side has a part number of 00004404654. Presumably I'll need 1 x left side and 1 x right side Yokes?

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

Iain

I got my 1144 pads through miles on here.

They allso happen to be the pads fitted to my new 205 with Gti-6 set up and they are excellent.

My yokes appear to be identical, and there is definately only 1 part number on the invoice with a quantity of 2 listed.

I have fitted mine and they went on no problems at all, the dealer may be right for once though who knows!?!

I also got my 1144's off Miles on here - top service!

I'd also recommend ordering some longer braided hoses at the same time if you do choose to get them from him, as the standard hoses can be a bit short when on full lock causing it to crease which is an MOT fail.

will these go under my speedlines?

yes they will although it's quite tight so any counter balance weights on the inside of the wheel that you may have may need repositioning so they don't catch

I had to move my weights to the outside ... grrr.. remember to do this on the rears too so that you can swap tyres around.

If you belong to the PSOOC you should get a discount from Pug which will pay for the membership and a bit more.

Bonzai

I feel as though i shouldn't be saying this after writing the guide and knowing dozens of people have followed it, but if i had the choice again i wouldnt bother with the 307 upgrades. Its been proven to me that the standard items are more than upto the job, and you dont have that problem with the wheels weights (my local tyre fitter doesnt even stock teh french style ones anymore :) )

Just my two penneth, but £250 is better spent on a rear beam refurb and some solid mounts.

I'd agree with Bonzai, I had a ride in a 205 rally car, that has standard brakes with uprated pads, and boy did that thing stop when he leaned hard on the pedal :)

good discs, fresh fluid and uprated pads is all you need in a light car like the 205.

Ah well, I've ordered them now :)

My rear beam has recently been refurbed and I've got Grp N mounts all round, it's just the brakes that need replacing. Not to worry!

The writeup seems a good 'how to', if the bits arrive in time I'll be doing it this weekend

Thanks

Thanks for your help everyone, what a fantastic forum this is for knowledge!

Here's the finished article, with about 2-3mm clearance between the caliper and the 15" Speedlines  :

Ended up getting Mintex Extreme pads for a Citroen Xsara/307 HDI from this ebay shop for £39.99

Off to the 'ring this weekend so I'll report back how they performed.
