Daxed 7 Posted July 3, 2007 Expect it is something I have done or caused rather than a pure fault as cooling system has just been re-fitted. 25A fuse ok Thermo fan switch activates fan when connections shorted. Can't see/find a slow speed fan resistor anywhere and can't remember if i saw one or not when dismantling. Best course of action please.
hengti 2 Posted July 3, 2007 if the resistor is missing or non-functional, the fan won't work otherwise, is the rad getting hot? the switch is in the rad and takes its reading from that location; if the thermostat wasn't opening, the rad wouldn't be warming as it should and the fan might not work for that reason couple of ideas anyway
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted July 3, 2007 When shorting out the fan switch connector do you get both fan speeds? If you only get high speed then the resistor is dead or missing (should be clipped to the top of the rad but often left dangling when the rad is changed). Most of my 205s have dodgy wiring to the thermoswitch (a wiggle can disable the fans!) that and a dead thermoswitch are the most common reasons for failure. Rob P.S. the resistor is only necessary to have a quiet fan, if you are happy to have a loud fan then just short out the resistor connector with a suitable piece of wire (I did one car with cut down crimps as connector is slightly narrower than a stock crimp).
