Turbo7379 3 Posted July 3, 2007 I was racing one day last month & it was raining very heavily . When combined with the spray from other cars it meant that my wipers were pretty useless . I'm racing again this weekend & it's probably going to be wet again . I've got a new screen fitted now & I'll treat it with rain-x so that might help but I noticed that a lot of the other cars had faster wipers . Is there any way of speeding up the 205 wipers ? sonofsam 5 Posted July 3, 2007 Replace the motor with something faster is the obvious idea, or even a brand new 205 one and refurb/lube the wiper spindles as these often crud up on the inside and the spline's usually strip too, leading to slow wiping I would of thought. pete1986 2 Posted July 3, 2007 A mate of mine used to have these little wiper spoilers, that make it easier for the wiper to go down when you're going fast ie. racing. I dont know how effective they were but may help your problem. He took them off ages ago, and for some reason have been in my glove box ever since! They're yours if you want them
Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted July 3, 2007 Never tried it but I would expect that striping and lubing the wiper spindles and linking arms has to help. I bet most have never seen any lube since they left the factory!
sonofsam 5 Posted July 3, 2007 Yes your'e right Rob! Have stripped a few sets now and the shaft is usuallly rusty and inside the plastic casing is drier than a sand scorpions butt crack.. Edit^^ I meant splines inside the wiper arms(bit the blade goes into) strip, so might be worth replacing them too.
timb1046 1 Posted July 3, 2007 the circuit to do the wiping will as far as i know use an a-stable multivibrator and can be speeded up by lowering the resistance on the resistors R1,R2,R3,R4. this is what im assuming i may be wrong but this is the system alot of cars use. although im not usre where the circuit board for this would be. paul205mi16 4 Posted July 3, 2007 I think it would be a nice litle mod in a sense, I would'nt mind slightly quicker wipers than standard.
pacey205 2 Posted July 4, 2007 I dont think Id be too fussed about faster wipers as such but Id like stronger wipers. When your motoring on the motorway or similar my wipers take about twice as long to return to park position than to sweep which gets on my tits lol
brianthemagical 1 Posted July 4, 2007 i found that on motorways my wipers somtimes jumped of skipped on the screen. i've now got a spoiler on the drivers one, it came as standard (bosch with an s after the length) and seems to do the trick.
