Need Help With 2 Weber 40 40 In 205 Mi16

Recommended Posts

I have a 205 Gti with the 1.9 complete bottom end (8v Crank, 8v Conrods) only change the pistons for a set of 16v, and put the 16v head in the engine.... and also put 2 weber 40 40 Dcoe, i would like to know if someone has the same car (the camshafts and the head was put original like it came from factory, i mean i has all stock, standard, nothing was touch or change, i only send it to a complete revision) and if someone could give me the details of emulsion tubes, chokes (in mm), idle jets, air jets and main jets, i have f11 emulsion tubes, chokes of 32 mm, idle jets of 50/F11, Air jets of 260 (i think this is too much) and main jets of 135, and a friend who has done the same thing to his car told me that he has the same things but the air jets are 200 and the main jets 150 o 160.. a few days ago i change the main jets, and put 150 ones and i don´t really know if the car is going any faster.. could someone help me?

I thought 45s were more suitable with the 16v but im sure thats just my limited knowledge? I ran 36mm chokes on a standard 16v head with a pair of the good old bp270 regrinds.

I can't tell you what jet n tubes i'm running I can't remember..... :)

Its due for a set up soon as its had head work I could find out then but that won't be for a while. Have you got a rolling road near you? they could tell you by setting it up. I'v Never been to Argentina so don't know!

In my city there isn´t a rolling road.. i could take the car to a especialist.. but i would like to play a little while first.. The best to suit the 16v are the 45 45.. but i bought a pair of 40 40 in excellent condition, so i puted those..

40ers are too small. the car won't run as good as with 45ers on and will be down on power as well.

That can be one opinion, but a friend did the same as me, 16v and 2 weber 40 40.. and with a good carburation the car run very fast..

hi mate, there are a lot of arguements on the 40 and 45, on an mi16, i was going to run 40s on my standard mi16, but further mods gave way to a set of 45,

anyway, with regards to your carbs,, you are going to have to put 36mm chokes in it, these are the bigest you can really put in a set of 40,s as your 32mm one are way too small, and will really be choking the engine!! F11 emulsions will be fine, id try somthing like a 140 main, 180 air, 35 pump jet, and a 45-50 f8 idle, and a 50 pump bleed(the one in the very bottom of the fuel bowl) as starting points, or somthing like this?

really without a wideband o2 gauge, or rolling road. you are going to struggle to set this up properly, but with a bit of playing around, you may get it somewhere right,

also what are you running in the way of ign?

In the ignition, the original 205 Gti Distributor... with the apdaptor.. and the 205 Gti spark plugs, is this fine?

And the car with a inlet manifold made by my mechanick... the injection of 205 Gti (with air flow meter bosch) with mi16 injectors, is this enough to the car to work fine? or it will be short of fuel? and the weber... i tryed 150 main and 200 air jets and the car didn´t work at all... i went back to the original jets.. 135 main and 260 air ... and goes fine, but it shows a lot of potencial..
