R1 Carbs On 1.9

i feel like im banging my head against a wall :) this may be a long post!

im trying to get my bits together for this bl**dy conversion and dont feel like im getting anywhere!

i've done a search and cant find a post with exactly whats needed for it B)

i've rung a few different places to find what are the best parts to use and get different answers

i know a few people have done this on here and i thought it would be straight forward :ph34r:

i've got r1 carbs a choke cable(from an XS) and my manifold is on order

do i use the r1 fuel pump or regulators to bring the fuel pressure down? (bogg say r1 pump another place says regs)

what else do i need?

can somebody direct me to a post or site that explains this in laymans terms please

please some body help or i may just keep it injection

the R1 pumps are cheap enough (£8-£25) suck it and see! but there none adjustable so could starve at high revs for long distance.

 

saying that, a fuel regulator is only £45 just need to recirculate your oe fuel pump and put a t peice off to the carbs.

20mins holy s*it!! :) mine aint running yet, im going for the facet and regulator route as mine started as a none injected base model! i have complete faith in the facet regulator set up, if u do the same u need to block off your fuel return.

what you struggling with?

yeah im only in biddulph, and i love the A53

 

yours is an xs engine so dont know if your gona have the same probs cause your carbs are at the back

basically bogg bros say use the r1 pump, mikeanics in congleton says i need 2 regulators a guy on ebay says i only need one :) (was gona ring demon tweeks but will prob get told i need 3 regs)

and thats just for starters

i think i need one of those and a injection to carb regulator as well

theres one on ebay item no 150 120 382 168 it has hi pressure fuel in 2 out to carbs and a exess fuel return line

is that all i need to change?

will it run after being rolling roaded and set up?

with that setup u still need another reg to get it down to 1.5 psi

ive heard of a guy on here "205007" running R1 carbs on a gti6 engine with standard jets but your better off getting it rolling roaded to be on the safe side rather than possibly cooking an engine through running it lean..

agreed, injection models already have a return so its just a case of joining them together and 'T'ing off it. Think them sytec adjustable regulators are only about 20 squid, and thats what my (and calvins) dad runs on his motor (twin DCOEs) with no probs.

i used a FACET silver top pump and disconected the standard pump a FILTER KING so i could regulate the pressure and also filter it and its all in the engine bey after the standard filter.

 

its a peice of pee to do.id never done it before and it took a few hours

 

only problem i have is it keeps eating the silicone joiners or vibrating off but apart from that its the best mod ive done, if you can CAM your rengine too cos mine flys now its got a 285deg cam in it
