Recommended Posts

IanG Dorset

I have been looking for a parcel shelf for a wile. I can get a grey one for free but i need a black one. Could i just spray it black like in this -

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xlmsMhftWj4&amp...ted&search=

Its at the 5:22 mark or there abouts.

the rest of the series is also on there that i found interesting.

If any one has any experiance of this what have they used? Or has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

Ian

You can get a can of black fabric dye that just sprays on, or the monkey way and spray paint it.

I probily will give it ago, I havnt got a lot to loose.

I must have been lucky when i had my bumper of a week ago because it came of reasonably easily.

A tip for every one - Put a dab of oil on every nut n bolt as you put it back on! It my save you those bleeding nucles one day

I've found black carpet dye on ebay, perhaps that would be suitable for dying a parcel shelf.

There is nothing wrong with spray painting the parcel shelf.

I did several myself so far (how come the light grey ones never have holes in them ?) and couldn´t find anything bad about it.

Sounds good, definately gonna give it a go.

Got me thinking that the headlining could be done as well! Also would that halfords flexoble black spray work on interior panels?

Both the parcel shelf and headlining are fine spraypainted with normal paint. I did my headlining with a spray gun though, as i thought rattle cans would make it go a bit streaky. :D

So is that the stuff use then?

Or does it not realy matter to much? Or what should not be used :D

I also just used normal spray paint and it looked fine.

Plain old cheapo matt or satin black will do the job just fine. Normal paint (as opposed to dyes) can sometimes leave the fabric a little stiff though, but a gentle brush over afterwards will get rid of this.

DON'T do what a colleague did once though! Many years ago when I was valeting for a living, a mate of mine couldn't get all the dog hairs out of a customers boot carpet, so decided to spray it black to disguise them (an old trick of the trade). Once we'd finished the car, he put all the guys belongings back in the boot, including a rather expensive tan leather jacket. I think you can guess the rest.... :D
