Collapsed Rear?

im a bit of a novice when it comes to sus, and im not sure whats wrong, i've done a search but cant find any simalar problems.

 

basicaly the car is sitting lower on the rear drivers side that rear passengers. the car is lowered probably as low as it can go. and the springs are so stiff im not sure if they actualy exist... are there any ways to find out whats wrong etc?

Whoever lower it probably didn't do it by equal amounts on each side.

The rear uses torsion bars rather than springs, you remove these, set the ride height then re-insert them.

 

If someone did this but didn't set the ride height equal side then the car will sit pissed.

ok i just went to jack up the left side (passenger) the one that sits a bit higher and the car just starts sliding away... sideways, any reason for this? yet when i jack up the right its fine, anso the left side body goes up and the wheel doesnt realy come up at all whereas on the right the car and wheel come up at the same time... sorry im crap at explaining. if you dont understand what i said ask questions and i'll try to be more articulate.

yes , you're crap at explaining!! but if what you are saying is that when you jack up one side you see the suspension arm drops until its fully extended . the other side you jack it up and the wheel stays where it is so to speak??

 

if so then you're rear beam is seized on one side.

take some pictures if it helps, it may be that one side has a bump stop missing.

Beam is scrap, remove it from car and fit another, best to get a rebuilt one

its not on a hill. i'll have another look this weekend and try and get some pictures of whats happening. if i do need another how much are they around for and how easy/hard is it to do?

ok, having looked at the sus again earlyer i have found that the right (drivers side) is frozen solid. the torsion bar seems to be the problem as i took the dampner off and it still wont move. is there any way of rectifying this? or is it a new part needed job?

 

also this was the reason the car was going sideways, when you jack up the left of the car the right wheel comes off the ground too! so when i was using a flimsy jack the jack was just tilting, however now i am home and have my hydro jack so its ok.

its not the torsion bar , its the rear radius arm is rusted into the beam tube. there probably is very little evidence of an outer bearing left .

 

as jonnie say , there will be very little salvagable off the old beam and its best to source another.

How?

 

I've got three beam tubes with radius arm shafts that are seized in & all are well beyond repair. If you have some magical way of getting the seized shaft out & repairing the tube so it is round & the beaings fit in I'd like to know it.

how much and wheres the best place to get a new beam from?
Anthony is your closest resident forum beam refurbisher, it might be worth sending him a pm to see if he has any available or to get a quote for a refurbished one.

So if the shafts are removed and the remains of the bearings it should be fine.

 

faikling that a new/second hand tube and some arm shafts would be the order of the day :wacko: (without forgetting the bearings of course, which are included with a new beam from peugeot)

Not on the one I've actually managed to get the shaft out on, the bearings ahd worn aay & gathered together in a rusty clump that had worn the tube as well before the mess of meatl filings glued itself together.

 

I haven't found a beam yet that the radius arm & shaft have come out together on when they have been seized solid, usually the radius arm comes off the shaft leaving it stuck in the beam tube.
