jerseypug 1 Posted June 30, 2007 just put this diy kit together, has anyone had any problems with this type of kit? i used 180 lb springs to keep it close to standard and should be able to easily adjust the ride height when fitted to the car.
welshpug 1,675 Posted June 30, 2007 that looks interesting, is it simply a sleeve that fits over a standard shock absorber instead of the spring pan and a suitable spring and top pan?

I had to borrow a impact gun to do mine.
paul205mi16 4 Posted June 30, 2007 Interesting, How are the done? Welded? Where from and how much ?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 30, 2007 You can get the kit from Demon Tweeks and other places I expect, The hardest part is removing the old damper insert on the 205 and the new bushes needed to stick a new one back in, You could just get a front Sprintline Damper I think and mod it externally
Anthony 1,003 Posted June 30, 2007 Been considering doing this for a while using the kit that Rally Design sell, so I'd be interested to see how you get on and what you think of it
jerseypug 1 Posted June 30, 2007 got the kit from demon tweeks, think they are £25 per strut. allready had the springs from some gaz coilovers, i used 180 lb springs and did not change anything with the dampers. just finished the other one and it took just under 1 1/2 hours. pdd144c 0 Posted July 2, 2007 We have fabricated and supplied a similar setup for a few race cars now, with everyone reporting good results. It's a cheaper option than buying Bilstein coilovers....
Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted July 2, 2007 so you're not using inserts then ? have you just welded to the body of the shock absorber?
jerseypug 1 Posted July 2, 2007 so you're not using inserts then ? have you just welded to the body of the shock absorber? when i cut the old spring plates off i left the weld around the strut that the threaded tube now sits on. i put a few tack welds onto it but only to stop it turning when adjusting the ride height. Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted July 2, 2007 so they are even reusable . i like it
welshpug 1,675 Posted July 2, 2007 so you can have coilovers but not the really hard rallycar like ride? cooool so its as simple as removing the spring pan, sliding the threaded sleeve over and tacking it in place, then fit the spring, tp mount and off you go? DJ_ManuR6 0 Posted July 3, 2007 I´ve done the same job on a pts group n shoks. Im very happy with the result. Highly recommendable and quite easy job Cheers
snillet 1 Posted July 4, 2007 What lenght of springs did you use for that setup ?
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted July 4, 2007 does that sleeve part cover the end of the strut? Id be inetrested if I could fit a set to my adjustable koni shocks so I get adjustable height/stiffness of spring alongside the adjustable shock.

That looks like a standard top mount plate. Are you using a rosejoint in the top mount?
jerseypug 1 Posted July 7, 2007 using 8 inch springs which are 40mm lower than standard ride height and adjusted about half way up the threads so i can raise or lower more if i like. put them on a 309 just to try out and have been going down bumpy tracks and all is ok. i have used standard everything apart from the springs, spring holder and threaded tube. the sleeve covers the end of the strut by about 30mm. Although i´ve read som things about the stability of the whole strut assembly being less good with these conversions because the "stock" spring seats are mounted at an angle to stabilize the damper, this sounds very good to me since i´m trying to achive a "low budget" combination of usable car on both track and as a daily driver. Not very costly, at least not the sets sold at rallydesign. Will have to give it a shot i think
vickiw106 1 Posted December 5, 2007 sorry to bring this topic up from the past i am currently doing this conversion and i am wondering have you guys put the top spring pan in that comes with the kit and the bearing aswell i know that special tuning use to do a top spring pan so you can run the bearing any help please thanks ian
Dan Ingram 1 Posted December 8, 2007 Im also looking to do this conversion with the demon tweeks kit. Do I need the 10mm hole kit?? Also demon tweeks list 2.25"/58.5mm springs in various sizes and ratings, will they be suitable??
