gti_al 1 Posted June 29, 2007 The details of the engine swap are starting to raise questions. Anyway, i found this topic answered my question, except it also raised some issues. I have fitted a mi16 be1 to my car, and clearly need another clutch cable. Fitting a new cable is easy enough, but i can't get another pedal, as Be3 equiped 205s aren't stripped often (ever) here. I have been after a pedal all week, but haven't been able to get one. Has anyone found another solution to this? CW's suggestion of a thread joiner makes sense, but i haven't been able to find anything like that, and can't talk anyone into making me one. Has anyone had any sucess with another way of extending the cable, or attaching a be3 cable to be1 pedal? Or does someone want to post me over a pedal!? Cheers guys. Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted June 29, 2007 Little confused as you said you fit a be1 box and you have a be1 pedal? Im assuming you mean you have a be1 pedal and be3 box. If this is the case you can make a be1 cable fit the be3 box, you need to shorten the other shroud of the cable by approx 1.5 inch then slot the sides slighty with a file so it locates in the gearbox under the battery tray. Ive done it on mine and it works very well. For a bit more peace of mind I made a small bracket that pushes the cable down to ensure it wont pop out of the gearbox where it slots in. gti_al 1 Posted June 29, 2007 Sorry... Be1 Mi16 box, which seems to have a similar cable arrangement to a Be3. Your plan is exactly what i was after - someway of bodging it up to get back on the road! The thing is killing me with minorish expenses... The fact it is a Mi box shouldn't change anything should it?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted June 29, 2007 no the actual box housing should be the same so the principles are the same, I just started by checking I could make it fit where it locates at the box end of things, then worked out how much extra unshrouded length was need and went from there. Just be careful not to damage the inner cable when cutting the outer shrouding. I found that carfully removing it with an angle grinder worked best. Snips tend to crush the outer and cause the inner to rub.
gti_al 1 Posted June 29, 2007 Cheers richie... I'll have a look at the car over the weekend to try and work out what you have done. It isn't exactly making sense, but hopefully looking at it should help. Has anyone done it any other ways?
