Strange Knocking From Driver Side Front

Recommended Posts

mainline

I get a knocking sound every time I load up any weight onto the drivers side suspension by turning left. I assumed it was droplinks and replaced both sides, the knocking is still happening though. I can sometimes detect a very light knocking when rolling forward off the power.

I also get a bad knock occassionally when reversing in a straight line on a flat surface. I checked and the caliper doesn't seem to be rubbing.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I am accelerating or not, it will still happen. Which made me rule out driveshafts, was I right to do so? I can't feel it through the wheel either.

I have pushed and pulled at most of the suspension at the front and nothing seems loose.

I have tightened the subframe bolts.

Any other ideas?

Could my rear beam be seized and causing a vibration? I had the rear wheels off when I swapped them over and I found it very difficult to turn the wheels while the car was jacked up, is that normal or does it indicate bad things? There's no worrying camber or anything like that to indicate that the beam is knackered. But obvioulsy its now playing on my mind!

Would really appreciate a few pointers as I can't seem to place the problem and I don't want to needlessly replace more bits that are actually okay, especially the rear beam or something drastic!

All though you think its not i think you might find its the driveshaft.

So, if it is the driveshaft, and the knocking is mostly when turning left is it more likely to be the o/s or n/s one?

mines doing exactly the same and every thing is new. the driveshatfts are 6 month old i have a feeling its the driveshaft as it only happens when i apply power. it doesn't knock when going down potholes or over bumps as it would with a worn arb or ball joint.
