Very Quick Question

Recommended Posts

Adnic69

More or less done my MI16 conversion.

Pnly question I have is this. Down at the starter I have two wires that can connect to the starter spade terminal part. 1 is a thin green(light) wire. 2 is a thick blue wire with a bigger spade connector on the end.

What one is correct and what does the other one do?

Thanks.

thickj blue will be starter solenoid wire, has it got a piggy back terminal as the other may connect to it and lead to the tach relay.

PS, that wasnt a quick question, a quick question is 'why?':P:p

Its definitely the blue wire onto the single spade connector on the starter if this is the engine/loom you got from me. I don't recall what the green wire is for but I would guess its the alternator if its in that area.

Hi there mate, yeah this is the engine I got from you. Hope your memory is good and you can remember where the wires went and spot what I have done wrong.

Right, now I have a few other wiring related problems.

There was a brown cable that I had labelled to go on the alternator.

If I put the blue wire to the starter then the engine will turn over on the second stage of the key not the sprung third.

What have I done?.....

Bx ecu connected to ecu end, Yellow wire coming out of that part of loom is connected to white wire that is for the fuel pump.

2 multiplugs connected to loom that goes through the bulkhead.

2 Earths on gearbox

1 Earth on suspension turret

Power. Two thick wires coming from battery that go to alternator and starter.

Blue thick wire to starter spade

Alternator has brown wire connected

There are two other wires connected via spades, one blue wire and one green.

There are more wires than this but they are just sensor wires etc.

If the battery is connected the oil temp light is on and the stop ligh even though I don't have keys in the ignition. Also there is no power to the rest of the car, no lights, indicators etc.

Any ideas?

Anyone else got any ideas?

The ignition side of things is sorted thanks to Kieran but am still having the other problems. We spent a fair bit of time on the phone today trying to get to the bottom and it seems that I have done everytthing ok but still there is no joy.

Is there anyone local that has done an MI with bx loom that could come and shed some light on the situation.?

Power. Two thick wires coming from battery that go to alternator and starter.

There should be a third thick wire coming from the battery with a ring terminal that should connect to the little black distribution bock on the slam panel, if that is missing it would explain why nothing has any power.

Problem solved.

It was mt fault, I had put the earth from the inner wing on the gearbox. I put it where it should have been and all is now fine.

Thanks guys.
