Swaping Out Engine - How Long/how Much

Recommended Posts

Morning all

How long would it take to remove the engines from a 205 1.9 gti and then refit one of them?

Does anyone know how much i should budget for getting this done?

8v to 8v probably 2 hours dependent on how seized the downpipe to manifold bolts are and wether there are any differences in the engines.

dont pay a garage, pay a member locally to do it with you, cheaper and you will learn a lot if youve never done it before. As a rough guide I swaped my engine 3 times in a day, including do a shell and crank swap on one engine. that was me and a friend outside without an engine crane.

as Richie and welshpug say just a couple of hours to get each engine out

then another couple to put one back

just dont get side tracked and make sure you have all the fluids (coolant and gear oil) before you start and you could be driving it that night :P

Is there any member in the Essex area that would like to earn some beer money (or 50k mile 8v engine) in the next couple of weeks? (If they have an engine hoist it would be great

It took me and a mate a 3 hours to get the old engine out the first time we did it and about about the same to get the new one in. Got the time down the second time we did it a month later!!
