How Effectively Can I Run 2 Subs Off 1 Amp?

Recommended Posts

currently I have a single Alpine SWR-1221D sub running off a QXSeries QXT200, but want to get another sub the same if possible. at the momoent it's running 1 channel per coil, but I'm told that through some trickery with the wiring and getting the impedances right, I could run a pair of SWR-1242D subs on just the one amp. How would I do this, and how effective would it be?

Also I'm considering a pair of 10" subs instead of 12". The idea basically would be to try and retain the low down kick of the single 12", but gain a bit more in the higher frequencies with the 10s. is the theory correct in that?

None of this is for my 205 before I'm accused of adding dead weight :D.

See here for the options you have:

You want the impedence (ohms) as low as possible, in your case 2 ohms. If you go any lower you will blow the amp!

thanks for that. if I understand that right, running a pair of SWR 1221D (2ohm + 2ohm) subs off a 2 channel amp, I can have them both running at 1ohm in series, or 4ohm parallel? I'll probably be better off with a 2nd 2ch amp in that case. thanks.
