foreigner 0 Posted June 24, 2007 I saw some topics about 306 rear beam on 205. Apart from problems fitting it what other advantages are there? What 306 type is best to use,? would td be ok?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted June 24, 2007 best to use would be gti6, or hdi etc with disc rears and the thicker TB's and Arb. Other gains are slight camber and toe in plus the obvious track width. DOwnside is getting correct handbrake cables to fit, fitting the beam, wider arches and making the front end match. welshpug 1,657 Posted June 24, 2007 getting the handbrake to fit is no trouble at all, both trailing arms are damn near identical, and the calipers ARE identical the biggest problem is actually mounting the beam to the car.
foreigner 0 Posted June 24, 2007 So another question would be does the front needs to match the width? i remember that 306 hasn't got the same width of front and rear
brianthemagical 1 Posted June 25, 2007 So another question would be does the front needs to match the width? i remember that 306 hasn't got the same width of front and rear not necessarily. the different track widths will give different roll characteristics. it is more a case of balancing the two ends with springs, dampers and geometry. if youre sticking to standard springs then look into using the 306 front track. read the sticky in the suspension forum. Alastairh 47 Posted June 25, 2007 Personally wouldn't bother. After seeing the pics 6 - 12 months ago of a silver GTI on ebay selling a 306 beam it looked a bit bodge, especially having the rear wheels sit out that far, it must come close to a mot failiure with standard arches! What id do, is get a 205/309 beam tube, some ZX arms with disc stub axels, and set of Pauls rear torsion + ARB bars. Thats the sorta setup im running at the minute and find it a right hoot Alastair
