Reverse Light Not Working

Recommended Posts

i'm at a loss as to what it is at the mo. it's a phase 2. i've connected the light up and using jumpers at the rear cluster it's not the earth. there is no power getting to the cluster. the fuse (no 1 i think) is fine and there is power there when the ignition is on but without the engine running. i've tried with the plug connected to the swithch and with the plug off and a jumper across the two terminals (on the plug). i'm currently on the fuse board but i've found a 53 and52 and there is no continuity when i think there should be. i think thats it. any help would be greatfully appreciated. thanks.

Try taking the plug off the gearbox switch & bridging the two connections to see if the light comes on or not.

The connectors are bad for corrosion & the wires go brittle causing them to snap very easily right by th plug into the light.

I found this when going round my car before the MOT & the fog light wasn't working. Replaced the wires with new ones & passed the MOT first time. :D

thanks for the reply. i did try to bridge the connectors and it didn't work, there wasn't even volts at the rear cluster.

i have found the fault. i was just about to look for continuity in the wires from the plug to the fuse board and pulled back the boot on the plug to find only one wire going in to it. as you have said thje wire snapped off and the plug. thanks again.

Common fault & good find.

I was lucky to have loads of loom I've stripped from cars so I used some of the wire & connetors from those to add a nice shiny new piece of wire & connectors before filling the plug & rubber boot with silicone grease to try to stop it rusting again.
