Odd Engine Behaviour!

Recommended Posts

HI

right to cut things short and simple....

engine idels fine on the dot of 1000rpm`s but the engine is lumpy in its running,

You can sit in the driver seat and feel the chugging as the car idels.

It revs fairly freely and the plugs are the correct colour.

The exhaust is fitted correctly with no leaks but sound rough.

any ideas?????????????????

Mine was doing the same, it was pretty kangeroo'y aswell. After a while of checking everything over, found my rotor arm to be completly fubar'd. Got a new one from Hlafords and it's back to normal now, ish

Sounds like an ignition weakness.

well been to halfords as its sunday... and all i could find was a rota arm...no cap as they dont seem to stock it so ill go to gsf or eurocar parts this week.

have to say it has done a bit better.... but far prom perfect so hopefully a cap will resolve this.

black = too rich, i.e too much fuel/not enough air, easy enough to resolve, just clean the plugs and adjust the fuelling accordingly (be it a faulty part or adjustment)

also regarding the coice of plugs the 8v XU runs better on single electrode plugs...

As to Pugbliss's idle I always thought it was how they were!

yes they are surposed to be a tan colour.

if they are black that would surgest you are running a rich mixture which could be down to a faulty AFM or somthing simple like a bad co2 set up.

go get it checked out.

Halfrauds part number HCL519, or which ever the letters are before the number, for dizzy caps, the numbers 519. Went in and had a look yesterday. Im gonna replace all the stuff with bosch though, halfords did the job for me to eliminate/find the problem.

I got some plugs from a local motor factor, completly useless

how do i adjust the fuel mix, is it just a case of screwing the allen bolt on the afm anti clockwise?? if so then its at its outer most limit...

That'll only do the idle mixture - there is no adjustment for mixture for actual running

A common reason for rich running is a faulty temperature sensor (blue sensor around the SAD) - a search for this should come up with the GSF part number for a new one, and resistance values for you to check that it's ok in the first place.
