Super Josh 4 Posted June 22, 2007 I recently adjusted the valve clearances on a Renault pushrod engine. 0.015 inlet, 0.020 exhaust on a cold engine, using the rule of nine method. Double checked them afterwards too. Everything seemed fine and the engine was certainly a lot quieter . All was okay for a few days and then the engine started to run on 3 cylinders. A quick removal of the rocker cover and I was presented with a broken pushrod, the cup on the end that the adjusting bolt from the rocker locates into had snapped off. Luckily no other damage. Now it was obviously fine until I got my Amateur paws on it Can anyone thing of anything that I might have done wrong? Is it possible that the lock nut wasn't tightened enough and the clearances have gone awry? Would this result in this kind of failure? I pick up a new pushrod tomorrow and want to install it properly Josh
jimbean 0 Posted June 22, 2007 sound like you did not tighten lock nut enough the adjuster has spun a few times and hey presto snaperoo
Beastie 1 Posted June 22, 2007 Strange though - in order for it to be caused by anything you have done rather than just unlucky chance then surely a valve must have hit a piston. If that happens then you certainly hear it in no uncertain way!
