Drivers door window on CTi.

When opening window (with door closed), window will come down about one inch and then stops. To get the window further down, I normally have to open door, and then it opens normally. It will however shut normally with the door closed.

Occasionally when opening the window (with the door closed) it will go past the one inch, but moves in jerks, with a clunking noise coming from behind the door panel, as if something like a gear or cog mechanism was slipping/missing or not meshing properly.

Has anyone any clues as to what the problem might be, and assuming that I need to replace some part of the mechanism, what part would I need. NB the motor itself seems to be OK.

Please advise - many thanks

Roy

it could be the runners that the glass sits in are bent or rotten which would probably make the window go up slightly wonky and could jam on the side, making it too hard for the motor to push up

The window is stiff on the runners and frame and the cog on the window motor may have rounded itself off. The other things are that can often be common that the runner has come off at the bottom of the glass. There is also an adjustment screw for how tight the glass fits to the door near the lock if i recall correctly. i think it is behind the doorcard though

Hello again Henry,

Thanks for your input - I will have a look behind the doorcard.
