skinner2k3 3 Posted June 22, 2007 In order to remove the lower wishbones on a 205 GTI should I first remove the anti roll bar? It looks like it is in the way. Also I guess you need to drop the subframe slightly to get the ARB out in the first place? Tried to get it done last night but my socket set has skipped 18mm and the rear bush is held in with them, dont think I have seen 18mm on a pug anywhere else! pacey205 2 Posted June 22, 2007 You shouldnt need to remove the ARB to remove the wishbones just unbolt it from both sides and then you can rotate it out the way, or at least thats what I did anyway. Michael
Ahl 4 Posted June 22, 2007 I don't think I had to do anything to my ARB either when removing GTI wishbones.
kyepan 291 Posted June 22, 2007 same, not needed. Undo lower hub nut > remove bottom arm from hub > undo front lower wishbone bolt, undo rear lower wishbone bolt.. off it comes. make sure you either drop the car on its feet before tightening the wishbone bolts, or put a jack under the hub and bring the wishbone up to its normal angle, otherwise the bushes may prematurely fail. DaveK 0 Posted June 22, 2007 what kyepan said, No need to remove anything other than the wishbone itself. It will no doubt be welded in the hub so will take a good smacking to get it out. Opening the slot on the hub hole helps massively Keeps you fit
Ahl 4 Posted June 22, 2007 Opening the slot on the hub hole helps massively Keeps you fit Don't open it any more than is absolutely necessary though - the damn things go oval very easily, and then you need a new hub. (Hub carrier to you smartasses )
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 22, 2007 (edited) Thanks guys, just need to get myself an 18mm socket now then. Will make sure the wishbones are somewhere near their normal position before tightening, cheers. I do have some polyflex ARB bushes to replace the knackered looking ones on there at the mo. Do I need to remove the ARB completely to do that? Edited June 22, 2007 by skinner2k3
westy 0 Posted June 22, 2007 Did both of mine a couple of days ago, the only difficult part is getting access to the rear 18mm bolt. i found that a socket on one end and an 18mm spanner + lump hammer knocked it off fine
