skinner2k3 3 Posted June 21, 2007 As above. My car failed its MOT last night, one of the main problems being the Sabelt 4 point harnesses. They dont have a BS#, although they do have a European standard #. The car has past MOTs with them fitted in the past. Does this sound right or is the tester being picky? He also failed it as the sunstrip was 10mm over area A or something, although that didnt matter as I just ripped it off. Other than the Harnesses and a few niggles, most of which I have already sorted the only big'ish problem was the O/S front wishbone bush. Anyone else had trouble with harnesses on MOTs? skinner2k3 3 Posted June 21, 2007 Ben 1 - MOT center 0.....well almost Just called VOSA about the harnesses and the MOT center should not have failed the harnesses. The European standard is acceptable where the British standard is not present, its clearly written in the regs apparently. I called the MOT center and gave them the bloke at VOSAs contact details and they said they had their own contacts and would need something in writing before they would pass it. Maybe an up to date MOT book would suffice ? Or if they perhaps read it properly! Dont think I will be going back there, I have seen derelict public toilets in better condition!! At least it went through the emissions lest ok, might have had something to do with the exhaust probe practically falling out just after the guy walked away from it, but who am I to point that out
jackherer 543 Posted June 21, 2007 MOT testers are sometimes very arrogant (none of the ones that are members on here though obviously ) I've had to point out their mistakes more than once, the last time I remember was a jdm mitsubishi from '94 or something that they kept failing on emissions despite the regs stating that jap imports of that age dont need to take the catalyst emissions test. In the end I printed the relevant stuff from the VOSA website and took it in for them to see.
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 21, 2007 This one was just a bit stuck in his ways I think. Seemed a bit put out when I told him I had spoken to VOSA though, like I had grassed him up I will have a look on the VOSA site, see if there is anything I can print off. Butler 0 Posted June 21, 2007 I think with Mot's, if you find a tester thats cool, stick with them.

daza4 24 Posted June 21, 2007 I'll keep looking then! If you want an MOT done in Melksham go to Auto tech round the ring road just past the Avon Factory opposite the petrol station. Go and speak to Wil (one of the mechanics tell him you spoke with his pitcrew Darren) he will be able to book you in. He races a 106 in the castle combe saloons. The garage he works for is very good. hope this helps.
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 21, 2007 Thanks, hopefully this will all be sorted once they speak to VOSA themselves but next time I will try them. Would that be Will Di Claudio by any chance? If so I know him from when he worked for Norry.

I have had my cars MOT'd where I work and for the last three I have had done they have all had some form of harnesses fitted. I have always question the chaps at work to understand this as the belts didnt have "E" marks on them. But they have always passed them!!!
