Dodgy Brown Multi Plug!

Recommended Posts

Pug_Power_Dave

just wondering if the charge light wire from the altenator runs throught that brown multi plug under the inlet manifold?? as my battery light keeps flickering and then sumtimes on and sometimes off and sometimes dimly lit. i had a brand new altenator fitted about 10months ago, so does this just sound like a dodgy connections to you guys??

going to get the mulit meter on it later see what sort of charge its producing!

Cheers

Dave

Cheers, i realise this has been covered before but just wanan run through what i've done to make sure im not missing anything!

engine off battery reading 12.7v, engine running battery reading 12.3v at both battery and alternator, 3000rpm ish battery still 12.3v, ligths fan and wipers on battery reading 11.8v.

leads me to believe the battery is gd as its not loosing power when being left over night.

now the alternator was new 10months ago, so could i just be unlucky and its nackerd?

or it could be a dodgy conection for the battery light wire?

Anything i may have missed?

and where does the wire go after the multi plug? into the dash direct or via the fuse box? and if so which fues should it be?

cheers

Dave

The wire goes straight to the dash through the internal 9-pin brown multiplug. I think a bad connection will cause the light to come on, but re-furbed alternators aren't known for their reliability.

Iirc the voltages on your battery are a bit off, but wait for someone else to say so before you go changing it.

voltage should read up to 14 @ 3000rpm, check the earth lead to the gearbox.

That be abit of a bummer if it is my alternator, i re-did all the +ve wire to the starter and the battery last time i changed it, and have but another earth wire on from the alternator bracket just to make sure.

Can i check that warning light wire if i take a new piece of wire from the spade connection and put it to a +ve / earth and see if it changes my voltage output? bypasing the battery light.

you should be seeingt 14v with engine running and everything on, around 14.4 with engine runing and everything off and 12-13v with engine off.

Yea just need to find the reciept for the warrenty!!

Will have to wait till next week now. Dont fancy risking driving it for the 4 hour journy down south so best get the train!

pretty sure its not the wireing as had a play around last nite and didnt make any difference!

So will try another alternator!

Cheers for your help

Dave

Have you checked the earth on the gearbox?
