sorr 0 Posted June 17, 2007 My smugness at sorting my hot start issue has returned to haunt me after a year of working perfectly. The issue is that if the engine is hot or the cooling fan is running my starter will not engage. Sometimes I get the solenoid clicking and other times I don't even get a click. To resolve the issue last time I replaced the wire from the solenoid to the brown multi-plug and replace the multi-plug itself. As I say this worked for a year, but now the issue is back! As peer usual the car starts fine when the engine is cold, and a hot engine makes checking connections to the starter, etc, a hot painful experience coupled with lots of swearing. Does anyone have ideas on what I need to do to trace the origins of this fault?
luggy 13 Posted June 18, 2007 Sounds like a solenoid fault, the only way to confirm this is to add a link wire to the spade connector on the starter solenoid, what this does is bypass the ignition, so next time you have this fault touch it to the + on the battery, if the car doesnt start then the solenoid/starter is up the creek. Thanks, I have just done this and it would seem the solenoid is fine so I will replace the wire from the ignition to the solenoid. What and annoying job given the lack of space under the bonnet.
