Vacuum Advance Changed

Recommended Posts

gti-si

Just fitted a new vacuum advance and cleaned up some other components such as the AFM and the SAD and put on a new Green Cotten air filter. Do I need to change the timing now i've got a working vacuum advance? I marked the position to where it was set by Steve (GLPoomobile) when he had it, and put it back there.

The tick-over on cold has now rasied from 1400-1500 to around 1600-1700 on cold, and sits at 1000rpm when warm, why has it changed on cold? And should I alter it? It seems abit more of a lumpy idle aswell, even though it sits at 1000, if thats possible. Im sure it's not revving AS freely now aswell, but that may well be in my head

Tickover on cold has probably speeded up because the advance is now actually advancing the timing which it needs when cold.

Timing can be played with a little if you wish to experiment, you can always put it back to where you marked it.

Assuming where it was marked was with a working vac advance! I would get it set up correctly and probably look at the AFM while you are timing it. Best bet is to run it with an exhaust gas analyser.

experiment to fid the most advance you can run at without pinking under load then set the idle up with dizzy at this setting by adjusting AFM and throttle stop/bypass. Best to set idle with co meter as Henry said
