Cracked Thr Sump

Recommended Posts

cracked the sump during a rally in my 205 mi16, it drove fine with no oil pressure problems, when i stopped the engine before the second stage the oil started to leak out the sump (lost about 1 litre, got the car towed back to service and replaced the sump with another mi one. after re filling with oil castrol 10-40 gtx (did say for modern engines) i primed the engine to get the oil pressure up before i started it. once it started all was fine untill i drove it, on tickover the oil light was comeing on and slow driving when the revs droped low would make it come on also. as soon as i reved it it was ok. i know the pressure guages are not the best but the needle is straight up when i an driving normally and sits at about 1/4 on tickover (when the light is comeing on) . once the sump was replaced i was told not to drive it just incase but i decided to carry on and screamed the nuts off her for another 10 stages without any problems apart from the oil light comeing at low revs. i have since removed the sump to check the pick up pipe was not damaged and checked the sumps are identical and they are both fine. has anyone got any ideas or had this problem?

i didnt dip it but about 4 litres came out of the sump when i drained it before removing it. i have just checked the non return valve in case it had stuck open but all is fine with that.

checked the pressure relief valve, put it all together, filled it up with magnetec 10-40, primed it then started it and the pressure is nice and high now. the only thind i can think of it being is the castrol 10-40 for modern engines.

wasnt the oil, just fitted a new digital oil pressure gauge and it showed the oil warning light comeing on at 39 psi and below. must have damaged it with the bump i hit
