Lhs Wheel Has Offset Itself..!

Recommended Posts

jas-E

Hey guys,

I just noticed that my left had wheel seems to be sitting further out compared to the right had wheel by about half an inch. Its as though theres a wheel spacer in there, only that there isnt one!

I recently changed my wishbones and everything was perfect until the last couple of days. The steering started feeling funny and whenever i took a right hand turn i always felt like the wheel was going to fly out!! There was also a slight knocking sound when i took a right hand turn. (Last time that happened to me i forgot to tighten up the wheel nuts!!!). Today when driving it its gone much worse and the steering really feels wobbly on right hand turns. Im also sure the turning circle has reduced aswell as i have to turn the wheel much more for the same turns!

I have opened everything to see that all the bolts i undid for the wishbone change were still as tight, and none of them were loose. I have checked the bolts on the suspension tops last week and the left one was slightly loose and i tightened it - checked them again today and are still tight.

The only bolt i havent checed is the centre hub bolt - thought it was a 32mm bolt, got a 32mm socket and the bugger is a 35mm i think and now the shops are closed so wont be able to touch that till tommorrow. I tried turning the bolt with mole grips just to see if it was loose at all and it did not seem to be.

Has anyone had a problem like this. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance

Jas

good chance thats the problem as its used to tighten the bearing up, or maybe your bearing is on the way out, does the wheel feel wobley when its jacked up? or is it solid?

did you use aftermarket wishbones? did you tighten the 2 bolts from the wishbone-subframe while the car/wheels were at normal ride height?

a mixture of the above will lead to early failure of a bush and i've seen them go after very little mileage.

as for the offset i would guess that you may have been incorrectly supplied with one 205 gti arm and one 309 gti arm? worthwhile giving them a measure.

All the bolts were tightened with the suspension up to normal ride height. Im sure my wishbones are not incorrect as they were fine when i fitted them. That said i will measure them to be sure.

I hope its the hub nut come loose - just going to buy the 35mm socket now and goin to open it up.

Cheers for your responses.
