jim21070 2 Posted June 10, 2007 AFAIK, the XU10J2TE as found in the Xantia and XM are much about the same and make around 150BHP at 7psi boost. There were two different breeds, the RGX in the earlier cars (XMs) and RGY in later XMs and Xantias . They are very similar although the RGY is said to be stronger and more reliable. Both have a single butterfly. I always thought the Pug versions were pretty much identical myself. I do note though that the Citroen ones all use the Bosch Motronic MP3.2 ECU whereas the Pug 406 and 605 appears to use the MP5.1 ECU. You can tell from the cars VIN plate. If it has RGX or RGY in it, then it has the 8V turbo. Whatever the donor, they're a cracking engine
sonofsam 5 Posted June 10, 2007 Wrong way round Jim, RGY (lower comp. ratio) = earlier engine, 140bhp RGX = later engine, 150bhp They both use MP3.2, my 406 engine certainly does.
zowow 0 Posted June 10, 2007 torque was fantastic on my old 406, was a motorway steamer too

inferno 1 Posted June 10, 2007 (edited) if you can take a photo of the induction pipeing from around the turbo and cambelt end i should be able to id it, fail in that the numbers near the oil filter somewhere... the turbo is slightly different as is the induction pipeing between early and late ones... this is an rgx http://f7.yahoofs.com/users/445d0a02z91612...h4zHbGBsnZGagrI http://f7.yahoofs.com/users/445d0a02z91612...h4zHbGBHTrMYj40 Edited June 10, 2007 by inferno
sonofsam 5 Posted June 10, 2007 Have a look on the engine block itself. In this picture, where I have highlighted will either be RGX or RGY stamped into it, usually very faint though so you might want to scrub at it. I guess if you want to run big boost , along the lines of 1.5bar and upwards, then the earlier low comp RGY engine is more preferable. Being reliable depends on the mods you do to get it there..
