Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 10, 2007 could be links or it could be synchro's

Pug_Power_Dave 0 Posted June 10, 2007 If you can pull your linkages off easily then replacing them will help, as the nylon inserts may be worn, and will stop them getting so bad and jumping off. and if it is synchros then try a gearbox oil change, might help out for abit... Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted June 10, 2007 if its the syncro's you'll crunch into gear but find it no problem. if its the linkages you'll stuggle to get into gear but it wont crunch. hehe, if its the linkages and syncro's............
Wicker man 2 Posted June 10, 2007 its the stuggling to get into gear im having only crunched today a few times when i tryed to find 2nd & a haft good gear that is
rossi 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Mine almost always crunches when I select reverse. If I select it dead slow though, I get away with it. Is it a ball ache of a job replacing syncro's?

Is it a ball ache of a job replacing syncro's? i could stand corrected but i'm sure reverse isnt syncronised on these boxes/ you just need be patient! its a solitary idler wheel . totally o/t but i'm pretty sure its this idler wheel that rumbles when the car is hot and sitting ticking over . almost all the pugs i've owned have made this noise. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 11, 2007 Worth checking the ball that's mounted on the subframe, quite often these come loose and you get problems, Easy fix a large washer and tighten up the nut (13mm)
Wicker man 2 Posted June 11, 2007 (edited) just had a look at the car & the little ball on the subframe is tight seem to have loads of play in the long linkage rods from the gear stick to the engine bay the ball joints are really loose all the others are almost brand new (done by last owner) & are nice & tight so going to replace & mite get myself a quick shift thingy bob while im here hurd some good things about them Edited June 11, 2007 by Wicker man
