Strange Misfire

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

Ive borrowed Chris's 200sx but it has a misfire, bit odd as its not all the time, its when it first comes on boost. Not really noticeable in 1st but 2nd gear upwards if you plant your foot it kind of splutters few times then takes off. Any ideas what could be causing it?

s13 with a superchipped ECU 170bhp ATW.

checked for boost leaks etc and nothing sinister, engine was rebuilt 15k ago and doesnt use oil/water etc. One thing I have noticed is theres a strange gurgling with engine off after a run, sounds like its coming from Reg end of the fuel rail. Wondering if its a regulator fault and fuel pressure is off? But wouldnt this give issues throughout. It literally only does it when you plant your foot, as soon as it gets past 2 or 3 missses it takes off.

yes fuel pressure regulators do let go they dont go across the board, always at certain points(idle is normally favourite) also check its vacuum hose, check throttle body for gunking up too

Is it misfiring or it is flat spotting/holding back?

Another quick test is a fault code check. all you need is a paper clip.

you can find a guide on www.gtiroc.com, as the engine manangement is the same as your s13. It will show up crank angle sensor, knock sensor and other fonts. It may be falling into limp home mode due to faulty knock sensor, this cuts the boost and ups the fuelling.

hope this helps.

vac hose sounds a likely suspect, I know where its connected to the dump valve it looks a little loose.
