Soundproofing With Second Skin Sludge Today

Recommended Posts

Doof

I decided that while i'm ripping my car apart i'd try and sort the interior out with new phase 2 seats and a coating of second skin spectrum sludge which seemed to have really good reviews. It was pricey at £70 but i've heard good things about it. Heres a pic of the application and i'll be sure to post back when the interior is back together and i've been for a drive.

The sound deadening of Kings according to all it's reviews :P

Even more effective when used in conjunction with their sheet products, like Damplifier of Damplifier Pro, but apparently very good in it's own right.

Do you think you could you apply this stuff to the back of interior trim panels too in an effort to stop the plastic rattling and creaking?

It doesn't adhere to plastic very well, so not really. Link. Although if you really wanted to, you could apply one of their damping sheet products first, and sludge over that.

But really to stop trims from rattling, you need a product that isolates them from their surroundings, and each other. Self adhesive black felt around the edges is an industry favourite, or even thin foam of neoprene.

Second Skin produce Rattle Pad specifically for this application.

IVe painted the normal second skin spectrum on the back of a lot of my dash panels and its helped, no longer sounds like really cheap nasty plastic when u knock it and doesnt rattle too bad considering the grp n mounts and exhaust hitting the body.

Bah, now you tell me after i paid the ten quid! :)

Looking forward to getting it back together, if its as good as you say Paintguy it's gonna be great. Think i'll leave the extra mats for now as it gets rather pricey, it wouldn't be too hard to pull the carpet back up and stick something down later anyway.

edit: do you think it matters that much that it dries slightly patchy? When wet it covered everything nicely but as it has dried theres bits where you can see the metal. You can see the red paint in the picture in places.

The thicker the better really. I noticed there were a few bare patches, and if you have any left I'd go over them again to make sure it's fully effective :)

Have a look through this guide for an idea of how thick you can put it on.

The thing is i dont think i've got enough to go over everything and get it covered completely. It seems ok when its wet but im sure as it dries out it must contract slightly leaving gaps. Still i think it'll be good and i'll do what i can with whats left. I'll post results in a few days hopefully.
