Boge Sachs Shocks Are They Really Oe Spec?

Recommended Posts

sorr

Asked at my local dealer how much front and rear shocks would be... the reply was £120 each for the front and £87 each for the rear, both prices were plus VAT. So I tried GSF and they are only around £30 each for fronts made by Boge Sachs.

Given the price differential between GSF and a dealer are the Boge Sachs ones a true equivalent of OE shocks?

I know I could get 'uprated' shocks for not much cash but I am getting old and want a bit of comfort in my life. ^_^:D

I had a 309 GTI for a while with boge sachs shocks and TBH it drove really well for the short distance I drove it, but they are very slim shocks and cant be anywhere near as good as the OE ones.

Might be worth taking a look at the Bilstein offerings that Eurocarparts have (something around 90 for both). Bear in mind that Peugeot put Bilsteins on the T16 - that was enough to persuade me! Picking them up tomorrow, but won't get round to fitting for a good few weeks.

Still anything will be better than the mixed Spax/Record I have on the front at the moment.

Super Josh

Well the O.E. Dampers are made by Bilstein. Euro Car Tarts sell the full set of 4 for arounf 130 quid IIRC.

The OE dampers are made by Peugeot, they are one of the only car manufacturers that make their own dampers AFAIK. This may have changed since the days of the 205, I don't know if they still make their own ones.

The bottom end bilsteins aren't that good at all, its only their high end products that are worth having. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=76055

I tried another dealer and it would seem my local one just made up some over inflated price and I can get front and back shocks around £270 in total. So I will be going the genuine shocks with SBC springs, no more bone jaring Spax. :)

I've got this setup with new OE shocks and SBC springs. The rear is really nice actually and decent OE rear shocks are hard to beat without spending more money. The front is a little crashy tbh.

Let me know how it feels when it's all replaced. :D

Slightly O/T, but i fitted some new O/E shocks to my 205 a few months ago, and im quite suprised how good they are! I wasnt really aware that my old ones where that knackered, but the new ones feel excellent, tighter than i was expecting actually. For my area, anything much stiffer would be overkill.

Recommended!

I didnt see richsmells post before posting that. Coincedental!

Ive also got the SBC springs as it happens! i agree it can be a little crashy down really broken roads, though i do have group N top mounts, but its a very nice balance all the same IMO.
