Anyone Ground/cut The Master Cylinder?

Recommended Posts

Higgy

Hi,

I was thinking about getting an old master cylinder and grinding off metal, to give a greater clearance between between the Mi cam cover and master cylinder. - Anyone done this?

Using an old one would give me some idea of the metal there before you actually cut into the fluid channels.

Hopefully it being a rough cheap old casting, there should be plenty of spare metal?

Here is a crude sketch:

As the brake pedal etc is fitted to a removable panel bolted to the bulkhead is it not possible to move this slightly rather than grind the cylinder as it is only a small amount. Or alter the angle at which the cylinder meets the bulkhead which would do it as well.

May be wrong but when I get a little better I will look into the possability.

Super Josh

Some people put washers underneath the lower part of where the serve/pedal assembly bolts to the bulkhead to angle it up a little for the extra clearance.

I've done simialr on my GTI6 with a 406 mc, but im going to play around with the engine mounts some time soon and lower the lump slightly and get a bit more exhaust manifold clearance on the bulkhead
