Something's Sticking!

I've recently noticed that something is sticking on my rear brakes.

Went to reverse the car out the garage for the first time in a couple of weeks the other day and it was sitting up like the brakes were on.

Didn't have time to investigate further so left it till today and took it out for a spin to see if I could free something up.

Its not as bad now but still doing it, a bit like trying to set off with the handbrake on.

Now discs I can work on all day, but know absolutely nothing about drums so was wondering if these simptoms sounded familiar to anyone?

My money's on the handbrake cables- probably corroded and outer casings broken by the larger diameter parts where it clips to the underbody

rear brakes binding, had it a million times on cars that have been stood. You have ovcercome most of it by driving it, if you want to really shift it the best way is gently apply the handbrake while driving, not enough to lock wheels and not long enough to boil thefluid, just enough to really polish the insides of the drums with the brake shoes. Or you can take the drums off and give them a real good clean up inside and then mess with the adjusters to ensure you get and ideal setup.

Tip for future, if your not going to drive it for a while put it in gear with handbrake off.

Cheers mate :)

You're right, its not as bad as before but not etirely sorted so I'll try what you said about driving with the handbrake on. I'vr alrady left it with the handbrake off in the garage at least

If that doesn't work I'll give it a full inspection and see what I find :D
