Garry 1 Posted June 4, 2007 I have searched the answer to this and I ended up in 2004 with no conclusive answers! I fitted the above to my 309 beam complete with 23mm TBs and 25mm Arb. From jumping in the boot the car moves all of 10mm (highly technical I know ) I did have the sprintline rears fitted which was firm but gave smooth ride, the tarmac ones are absolutley solid, its like riding in one of those Hydraulic suspension Gangster cars! My main concern is they may be too stiff for my pending 'ring trip. So, are they all like this and has anyone tried them at the 'ring?
Craigb 2 Posted June 4, 2007 the rate for the dampers are below , I never found the Tramac ones too hard , so much so that i run the 306 forest on mine 205 Forest 360/ 250 205 tarmac 460/250 306 Forest 500/
Anthony 1,003 Posted June 4, 2007 I've got 205 Tarmac's on the back of my 205, and whilst they're noticeably stiffer than Sprintlines, they're no worse than Koni's in terms of ride quality and do seem to give good damping and body control. Craig - have you got the damping rates for the 205 Sprintline and Challenge dampers as well per chance, out of interest/reference? Subjectively feels like the Sprint's are similar to Forests (which I have on my 309) and the Challenge similar to the Tarmac's, but would be interested to see if that's correct. Craigb 2 Posted June 4, 2007 Sorry Anthony they are the only figures i have
Garry 1 Posted June 4, 2007 Craig, I take it those figures are for bump and rebound respectively, is that lb/in?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 4, 2007 I've got 205 tarmac's on the back of mine with a standard 309 beam & even with no rear seats etc in its fine for road use & if anything better than the Koni's I had on previously before one started leaking. (the koni's were set a full soft as well iirc) Graham.
Rippthrough 98 Posted June 4, 2007 Craig, I take it those figures are for bump and rebound respectively, is that lb/in? I don't know many dampers that work in lb/in!
Garry 1 Posted June 4, 2007 What do they work in then?
Rippthrough 98 Posted June 4, 2007 Force against velocity.
Craigb 2 Posted June 5, 2007 Don't know extaclty what the units are , but i would hve thought they have to force units as thats all the damper is , a resitive force , that has an upper limit . depending on setting
fxi1900 0 Posted June 5, 2007 Don't know extaclty what the units are , but i would hve thought they have to force units as thats all the damper is , a resitive force , that has an upper limit . depending on setting Go for a 309 gravel bilstein, They are inbetween a 205 tar and a 205 gravel
Dino 3 Posted June 5, 2007 I had the Billy tarmacs on my 205 at last years ring trip mated with 24mm ARB and 21mm TBs and they worked fantastically. Stop fretting Garry - they will be fine
Garry 1 Posted June 13, 2007 Thought I would add an update on this: I have been driving the car this week and the low speed ride is very stiff / jiggly but as speed increases it does smooth out quite a bit to be much more comfortable. I suppose that whats the shocks are designed for, high speed runs not commuting through Camberley .
Alastairh 47 Posted June 13, 2007 Sounds good How do you find the sprint lines on the front with the 6 engine? I've noticed with S16+6 lumps high light weak front shocks as you bounce down the road thats all, and i need some new shocks come pay day
Garry 1 Posted June 13, 2007 I really like the sprintlines, good for road and track use. I have now got some Leda's so will be taking them off soon
